In an effort to realize cost savings and efficiency, the Southern Company evaluated a proposal to Consolidate Accounts Payable into one central location for the entire company. This proposal made good business sense and was approved in early 2006. Our vision was to gain an effective and efficient balance between centralized and distributed responsibilities. Southern Company has been able to realize a reduction of 21% full time equivalent employees and a 22% cost reduction while standardizing its policies and processes to create a one company mindset. The centralization of Southern Accounts Payable highlighted Southern Company’s values of execution of plans and commitment to excellence, safety, customers and shareholders.
